Welcome to 8th Grade math at Sharon Hill School! This website is designed as an online resource to support the work in Mr. Linderman's 8th grade math classes. On the following pages you will find links to homework and classwork, an outline of class expectations, our general philosophy as to why math is vital to success in life and how it is used in day-to-day living.
With the 2020-21 school year starting remotely, communication between students, families and teachers is more important than ever.
Please make sure we have the most up-to-date and accurate means of contacting you. I will regularly use Class Dojo as a means to communicate, as well as email updates on what we're doing in the math classroom. If you need to contact me for any reason, I can be reached in the following ways:
Email: [email protected] (Preferred Method of Communication)
Google Voice (Phone or Text): 302 414 9862
Class Dojo: Message me through the app.
Front Office: 610-522-4355. Leave a message with front office staff or ask to be connected to voicemail.
Please make sure your student is connected to the Google Classrooms for the 8th gr announcement page, as well as separate classrooms for math, ELA, social studies, science, and specials. Your student will need to log into their SEDstudent gmail account to accept the invitations to their classes.
Students are expected to be logged in and participate daily in their class schedule Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, beginning at 8:40 am. There will be no class schedule on Tuesdays, however teachers will be available to assist as necessary. If you have any questions regarding technology issues or your student's schedule, please feel free to reach out to any of the 8th gr team, or visit the SHS 8th gr Google Classroom page.
Class Supply List For when we return to school):
A Composition Book or Spiral Notebook (For use as a dedicated math notebook -- not multiple subjects)
A large pocket folder (Dedicated for math – handouts and worksheets)
Loose leaf paper (We’re not tearing out paper from journal)
Wood Pencils with erasers (No mechanical pencils)
Calculators will be supplied in class when needed. If you would like to purchase a calculator for home use, I recommend the TI 30Xa. This is a scientific calculator that retails for under $20 at most major retailers, and will serve students well through 8th grade and as they transition next year to high school.
Algebra students will be supplied with advanced graphing calculators as the curriculum builds in the 2nd half of the school year. Graphing calculators can be quite pricey, so I recommend holding off on purchasing a graphing calculator until needed. Please check to make sure any graphing calculator will meet the needs of the students before completing any purchase.
Additionally, please remember that students are not permitted to use phones for any reason in school. Phone calculators may be used at home for homework, but are not permitted, or necessary, in class.
